Windows 8 Shortcut Keys

I recently upgraded my Dell XPS 13 to Windows 8 RTM.  As most of you are probably aware, Windows 8's primary UI is significantly different than the "desktop" we're all used to working with.  So I will be honest and say that it has taken some getting used to.  One of the things that has helped greatly with adjusting are shortcut keys.  I've started compiling a list of these below.  If you find any are missing, please let me know and I will get them added.

  • Win Key = Start Menu (or last active app if you're on the Start Menu)
  • Win Key + P = Secondary Screen settings (PC Screen, Dupe, Extend, Secondary Only)
  • Win Key + I = Settings
  • Win Key + U = Accessibility Settings
  • Win Key + Y = Launches Lync 2013 client when installed
  • Win Key + R = Run dialog box
  • Win Key + E = Windows Explorer
  • Win Key + W = Search Settings
  • Win Key + Q = Search Applications
  • Win Key + S = OneNote Snipping tool when installed
  • Win Key + D = Desktop
  • Win Key + F = Search Files
  • Win Key + H = Share
  • Win Key + K = Devices
  • Win Key + L = Lock PC
  • Win Key + N = OneNote Sidenote
  • Win Key + C = Charms Menu
  • Win Key + X = "Start" Contextual Menu
  • Win Key + <Number> = Launch program pinned to Taskbar (1 = furthest left)
  • Win Key + Shift = Narrator
  • Win Key + -/+ = Zoom
  • Win Key + < = Peek Desktop
  • Win Key + Up Arrow = Maximize current window
  • Win Key + Left Arrow = Arrange current window left justified
  • Win Key + Right Arrow = Arrange current window right justified
  • Win Key + Down Arrow = Minimize current window
